Orry Fronts CRED’s Black Friday Sale Amid ASCI Disclosure Concerns

Orhan Awatramani, also known as Orry, has been selected as the ambassador for CRED’s Black Friday Sale this year. Orry, recognized as a confidant to numerous celebrities, has garnered a wide audience for his discussions on spirituality and self-improvement. Now, his influential persona will be utilized to endorse CRED’s Black Friday sale, scheduled from November 25th to 27th.

The market for products like the Rs 9.20 lakh Omega Seamaster or the Rs 1.50 lakh Nike Air Force 1 x Tiffany sneakers holds significant sway over consumers. In alignment with this affluent trend, the credit card payment app CRED is encouraging influencers to discard their current wristwatches and smartphones, hinting at replacing them with the luxurious Omega Seamaster and the trendy iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Contrary to the belief that self-improvement experts advocate for non-materialistic lifestyles, Orry countered, stating, “Money is not the root of all problems, but a lack of money is the root of all problems.”

In recent times, Black Friday sales have gained substantial traction in India, driven by attractive discounts and tempting offers, despite lacking any cultural connection with the country. The overwhelming impact of consumerism has propelled this phenomenon.

Admitad, a performance marketing agency, anticipates a 70 percent surge in e-commerce shopping during the 2023 Black Friday compared to the preceding year. This suggests a growing inclination toward this Western-driven event within the Indian market.

Notably, the absence of disclaimers indicating paid collaborations in Orry’s video and other influencers’ posts raises concern, as it breaches the guidelines set by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) regarding social media influencer endorsements. ASCI mandates the disclosure of paid collaborations in influencer posts under its social media standards.
